Why Quality Matters in Sublimation: Choose Better Blanks for Better Results

When you're getting started with sublimation, it can be tempting to shop by price alone. A lower price may look like a great deal, but with sublimation, the quality of the blank can make a big difference in the final result.

After nearly 40 years in this industry, I’ve seen many customers spend more money trying to correct problems that were caused by the product itself — not by their printer, ink, or heat press.

One customer, Nancy, came to us after purchasing products online that were advertised for sublimation. Her colors were dull and inconsistent, and she thought something was wrong with her printer. The real problem was the coating on the blanks. Once she switched to properly coated sublimation blanks from DyeCraft Direct, the difference was immediately noticeable. Her colors transferred the way she expected, and she was finally able to get consistent results.

Another customer first purchased a sample from us at a trade show. Her customer loved the finished product, but when it came time to place a larger order, she found what appeared to be the same item online for less money. Unfortunately, the results weren't the same. The color, coating, and finished appearance did not match her original sample, and she ultimately had to purchase the products again.

That small savings ended up costing her more.

This is why the blank you start with matters. Whether you're creating sublimation mugs and drinkware, sublimation tumblers, photo panels, apparel, or other personalized products, you want a blank designed to accept sublimation properly and produce consistent results.

And when you purchase from a company that specializes in sublimation, you're getting more than a product.

At DyeCraft Direct, we understand the equipment, the blanks, the printing process, and the problems that can come up along the way. If you have a question about a product, a sublimation printer, a heat press, or the supplies you're using, you're dealing with people who work with sublimation every day.

Price is always important. But so are consistency, quality, support, and knowing that the product you're purchasing is made for the job you're asking it to do.

Better blanks can mean better color, more consistent results, fewer wasted products, and fewer costly do-overs.

Before choosing a blank based only on the lowest price, consider what an unsuccessful print will actually cost you — especially when you're creating products for paying customers.
